Güera, an abstract exploration of identity without any particular conclusion, combines the sounds of digital keyboard percussion, white noise, and two different electric organs while playing with vibrato, delay feedback, and other analog production techniques to create the soundtrack to a time of particular uncertainty in the artist’s life. As the drums sound, distort, and glitch out in an expression of extreme volatility, the melody maintains balance and sounds strikingly innocent at times, and powerful at others. The organs twist and turn throughout the track, transforming themselves through phases of suspense, liberation, and finally into the unsettling sound of a woman singing (or screaming).
