El León Pardo and Hannah Lee work together to combine the ancient sounds of the Colombian gaita with the seventies aura of an electric organ to create two versions of a unique and timeless ambient exploration. With Hannah Lee's electric organ as a constant narrative backdrop, El León Pardo takes the listener on a journey that goes through frustration, mourning, and anguish until reaching acceptance.
As a producer, Hannah Lee first plays with the sounds of El León Pardo's breathing and uses several recordings from different microphones to create dense textures inspired by the sounds of the ceremonial purification processes used in communities in the region. To balance the exorcism evoked by the first version, the second was kept as close as possible to the original recording. The duality of the pieces, enhanced by the manipulation of the tones of the recordings themselves, inspires in the listener an emotional process similar to going through the darkest hours of the night to arrive relieved and hopeful at dawn.
The name, taken from Khalil Gibran's book The Prophet, refers to the relationship between light and darkness as a matter of perspective.
